Katherine Anne is an artist interested in art theory, philosophy, research, arts and culture, and nature.

Artist Statement
Since early 2014 I have been interested in philosophy, in particular Edmund Burke’s notion of sublime. During the past few months I have taken my research further; I have researched sublimein nature, the sublime in Australian landscapes, and my response to the sublime in Australian landscapes. My research into sublime in nature includes my findings in Simon Schama’s book Landscape and Memory, it summarises the Taoist views of landscapes and their response to sublime in nature. My research into the sublime in Australian landscapes includes my summary of findings in Patrick McCaughey’s Strange Country: Why Australian Painting Matters, exploring various colonial artists and their experiences in the harsh and raw land of Australia. My own response to the sublime in Australian landscapes includes my response to my childhood obsession with Elyne Mitchell’s Silver Brumby, various folklore, my field trip through the snowy mountains, and my experiences since moving to Victoria.
